Programs
Flexible, alternative education with multiple project-based programs.
Placement and promotion is based on individual maturity. Class sizes are small so each student can have a personal academic experience.
Some students attend one day per week, others attend 5 days per week. Some students leave at 2:30 pm (when the academic day ends), while others stay until 5pm. All three programs below run simultaneously and are based on ability; not age.
Creative Play
Most students in Creative Play are 3-5 years old. This is an indoor & outdoor play-based program with structured academic times. The concentration is to develop social skills with peers. Here, they get to:
Intermingle with, watch, & be mentored by the older kids in the yard for short periods
Interact with their own age group & improve their social skills.
Art & sensory play at the tables: an introduction to letters, numbers, calendar, patterns, feelings, and Spanish during circle time.
Learn transitions & clean up.
Building Blocks
Most students in Building Blocks are 4 to 7 years old.
It’s Monday-Friday, 9-5 and concentrates on:
How to read.
Basic mathematical concepts including number recognition, skip counting, calendar, patterns, addition and subtraction.
Writing skill development.
Hands-on science projects.
Tuesdays & Thursdays they are separated from the Critical Thinker class and can concentrate on more directed learning.
Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays(preschool days) they join the Critical Thinking class.
Individually-targeted lessons in small groups and large group classes.
Critical Thinkers
Most students in Critical Thinkers are 7 to 13 years old.
It’s Monday-Friday, 9-5 and intended for students who already have the basic academic skills. The transition between Building Blocks and Critical Thinkers is typically gradual. We will have Building Blocks students come into the Critical Thinkers classes for parts of the day to make sure they are ready.
This class is full of discussion and group work that is often student guided and monitored from the outside. The goal is to create discourse, mentorship, a love of learning, and interest in the academic journey. We instill the ability and interest for students to teach themselves.
After School
It’s Monday-Friday, 2:30-5pm and taught by teachers and parent volunteers and concentrates on:
structure in the afternoon
